# Cancellation & Renewal

> Understand Starfire AI subscription renewal, cancellation timing, entitlement changes, and what happens to stored resources after a plan ends.

# Cancellation & renewal

Subscription cancellation affects future billing and, eventually, Starfire entitlements. It should not be confused with deleting the account or organization.

## Renewal

An active subscription renews according to its billing cadence unless it is cancelled or payment fails according to provider configuration.

At renewal, Starfire can update billing-period state such as plan allowance or credits according to the active Billing 4.0 configuration.

## Cancel a subscription

Use the Starfire billing surface or Stripe customer portal when the action is available there.

Before cancelling, confirm whether you are changing:

* a personal subscription
* an organization subscription
* seats/quantity
* the entire subscription vs one optional add-on/product when supported

## Effective date

Cancellation can be configured to end service immediately or at the end of the current billing period. The account's billing UI/portal is the source of truth for the effective date.

## After entitlement ends

When paid entitlements end, Starfire can fall back to the applicable lower/free access state rather than deleting the account.

Resources that exceed the new plan's limits can become restricted by storage, model, feature, or retention rules according to current policy.

## Stored resources

Cancellation does not inherently mean immediate deletion of projects, conversations, or organization resources. Retention and access behavior are separate from subscription billing.

## Organization cancellation

Cancelling an organization subscription should not convert organization-owned resources into one member's personal property.
